San Domenico Golf

Play golf all year round, immersed in the beauty of the Apulian countryside

Surrounded by thousand-year-old olive trees and the crystal blue Adriatic Sea, San Domenico Golf is the prestigious 18-hole course created by the lawyer Sergio Melpignano, the visionary entrepreneur from Puglia , who managed to bring great international golf to his beloved land. Just a few steps from the ancient Mycenaean settlement of Egnathia (5th century BC) and the small harbor of the picturesque fishing village of Savelletri, San Domenico Golf is a classic links course.

A Mediterranean style links course designed by architect Andy Haggar and built to the highest standards in accordance with USGA specifications by European Golf Design in London, the San Domenico Golf course is one of the best courses in Italy.

The 18-hole, par 72 course stretches over 6,300 meters and is characterized by the scents and colors of the Mediterranean scrub. Colors of the Mediterranean scrub: next to the low bushes of thyme, rosemary, sage and mint are dozens of centuries-old olive trees, whose rare beauty is the symbol of the uniqueness of this place.

The blue line of the horizon makes this place unforgettable, where you have a spectacular view of the sea from every hole. Here the wind blows constantly almost all year round and from time to time becomes both a companion and an opponent in the game.

The most representative holes of the course are hole 3, a long par 3 of over 200 meters, beautiful and difficult because the wind here is often contrary; hole 7, a magnificent par 4 that stands out against the landscape and hole 16, a 560 meter par 5, the longest and closest to the sea.

In the choice of grass for the fairways was used Bermuda, while for the roughs the
Fescue grass, insidious by its deceptive uniformity. For the greens, the Pencross variety was used, which provides very fast surfaces. The greens are quite wide and while they don’t offer any particular slopes, they are anything but easy to play on.

In addition to exquisite technical details, such as the strategic positioning of the bunkers, the excellent structure of the fairways and the careful design of the greens, the San Domenico golf course offers an unforgettable golfing experience thanks to an unsurpassed panorama: in other words, the ultimate expression of Mediterranean golf.

Inaugurated in the summer of 2003, San Domenico Golf immediately hosted important national and international tournaments for professionals. In addition to hosting the National Omnium Championship and the P.G.A. Championship, the course has also been the venue for the Challenge Tour Grand Final for eight years, and numerous internationally renowned players have stepped onto the turf, including Martin Keimer, Alvaro Quiros, Rafa Cabrera Bello and many others.

In October 2019, San Domenico Golf was awarded GEO certification of the eponymous
Basis for sustainability standards. This important result proves that San Domenico contributes significantly to the protection of nature, the conservation of resources, the strengthening and support of communities.

The extra virgin olive oil is produced directly in the Masseria San Domenico and served together with KM 0 products in the restaurant of the clubhouse. To this day, San Domenico Golf attracts both golfers and tourists from all over the world, who are increasingly aware of the environment, sustainability and energy saving.
